Creating an image link
If you've mastered the technique for creating text links in the previous tutorial, you're well on your way to turning your images into clickable links. The two methods are nearly identical.
You may use either of the linking methods to launch multimedia files (like audio or video files) or to allow users to open or download documents (like Adobe pdf files). We will explore these options in more detail in another tutorial.
To begin, you'll need to login to the Administrative Console. Directions for this process are found in the first tutorial.
You will also need to familiarize yourself with the uploading images tutorial if you haven't added an image to the page you want to edit.
- 1. From the main screen, click the "Pages" link.
- 2. Select the page you want to edit by clicking on the link or the "edit" icon.
- 3. Within the HTML editor, select the image that you want to turn into a link by clicking it. Then, click on the "link" icon in the toolbar. The icon looks like a chain link.
- 4. When the dialog box opens, type in the full URL of the page or file you want to link to. (A full URL starts with http://). You can always copy/paste a desired URL from your web browser. Leave the Target dropdown menu in the default state, or choose "Open in new window (_blank)" to cause the linked page to open in a new window. Click "Insert" to apply your settings.
- 5. Now your image has been converted to an image link. To remove the link, select the image and click the "Unlink" icon in the toolbar. ("Unlink is to the right of the "Link" icon.) For this example, we will leave the link intact.
- 6. Don't forget to save your changes by clicking "Submit" or "Apply". Click on the "View" icon to see the real time changes made to your web page.
- 7. Your image has been successfully converted into a clickable link. Test your link by clicking on on the image.
The next tutorial will show you how to upload documents and multimedia files using the File Manager.
